Cultivation area

11 hectares of vineyards are spread over several plots around Châteauneuf-du-Pape. In the south, the old Grenaches thrive on the rolling pebbles of the greenhouses; in the north, in the Charbonnières on the clayey sand, the light grape varieties and Syrah grapes develop their fruity taste; in the west, the typical "Châteauneuf" develops on the chalky soils. The terroir in Châteauneuf-du-Pape consists of large rolled pebbles warmed by the sun, which distribute a regular and gentle heat in the soil during the day. This exchange improves the ripeness and concentration of the grapes.

Wine processing

The grapes are harvested by hand from mid-September, put into crates and pressed after complete destemming.
Fermentation takes place at 25 °C. Followed by 12 months of ageing in French oak barrels.

The popes who resided in Avignon during the 14th century developed the wine region. During the reign of John XXII, the village of Chateauneuf-du-Pape became the summer residence of the papacy. The appellation was named the Pope's wine. In the 20th century, the AOC appellation (Appellation d'origine contrôlée) was the first to be applied by winemakers in this region.
